📹 Video Editor

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a really good video editor to join my team part-time to help me edit my Youtube videos. It'll hopefully be a fun, exciting and dynamic role that'll give you BTS insight into my business and how we create videos. You'll have creative control, meet cool people and the videos you make will hopefully help millions of people around the world.

💸 Salary: Competitive.

I'd love to give you a number to be transparent, but there are issues involved with putting a figure here. For example, if it's low it might put the right person for the job off, and if it is too high, great editors might not apply in the fear that they may not be good enough. I'm looking for the right person for this role, and if that could possibly be you then please go ahead and apply and we can have a candid-money chat once you submit an application.

✍️ So What's the Plan?

  • Logistics - You can live wherever you want in the world so long as you have access to good internet speed and are able to jump on regular Zoom calls if need be. It would be great if you could also help with filming at times, so if you are living in the UK and are able to travel to London every few weeks to months that would also be desirable although not essential. Editing normally takes me about 4 hours a week (and I am definitely not a professional), so I'd expect it to take around about the same for you. If you'd like more work, there are always videos to edit so I'd also be happy to discuss more hours a week.

  • Video edits - I upload to Youtube about once a week, so I'd like you to take over all the editing on the channel. It would be really important to recreate the editing and production value that is on my channel, so if you haven't already then please do have a look at my latest videos. I usually film about 4-6 videos in bulk, so you'd likely get all this content ahead of time from the actual publish date. At the minimum, I'd like to get one video edited a week but if you are able to edit quicker so that we can have a backlog of videos uploaded, that would be great.

  • Courses Editing - We film courses / online classes / other stuff on average once a month. For the courses, we want the production-value to be levelled up beyond what it is on the YouTube channel (think Masterclass). You'd be responsible for editing these courses, which may be anywhere from 2-6 hours of footage.

  • Podcast editing - I recently started a podcast and will have various types of footage including video and audio files. You'd need to take the video/audio files and put them together for the podcast.

  • Repurposing of content - I have a huge backlog of videos that I'd like to be repurposed for other social media platforms including Instagram Reels and Tik Toks. If you'd like to have a look at examples of this, you can go onto my Instagram (bio2med). I'd say that I'm pretty average at this and other Youtubers definitely do it better, so if you can step my new content up and so that we can post more regularly, that would be great.

  • Thumbnails - Obviously, the title and thumbnail is the most important part of any video. Titles we normally sort out in advance (except for the vlog, we can brainstorm those together) but you'd be responsible for editing the thumbnails for all the videos that involve me. We'd generally have an idea of what sort of thumbnail we want in advance. You'd upload and edit these on Lightroom or whatever platform you prefer. This is not an absolute requirement, but if you are proficient at Lightroom, Photoshop etc that would be desirable.

✅ Requirements

  • The ability to do all of the above.

  • I don't really care about no. of years of experience etc - I want someone who's really good at editing (way better than me) so that I can fully trust that you'll handle all of the above.

  • Being friendly and nice to people - you'll be interacting the rest of my team. If you're friendly and can put people at-ease, that would be a huge plus.

  • That you add the word "rabbit" in the "Anything else you’d like me to know about?" section of the application form so that I know you have put in the effort to read all of this information.

  • The ability to 'work' evenings and weekends if needed. You'll mostly be in control of your own calendar, but if there is an important video that has to be out ASAP, I'd need the flexibility. This would be unusual, but it has happened to me previously once or twice.

📈 Desirable/Advantageous Skills

  • As mentioned, you know how to use Lightroom, Photoshop and other Adobe software to help with thumbnail edits, that would be great.

  • As mentioned, you know how to repurpose content for the channel or are willing to learn (it's quite easy to learn).

  • You know about video production quality. I'm moving into a new apartment soon and would be happy to talk about improving my filming setup.

🧑‍💻 The Ideal Applicant

  • You’re keen on working together for at least two years. I’m looking for someone whom I can build a relationship with over the long term.

  • You’ve seen enough of my content to understand the tone and style. You’ve got some ideas on how to expand my editing style to make the videos even better than before.

  • You’ve got some interest in tech, productivity, apps, medicine/university entrepreneurship and/or personal finance. Lots of my content will be based around these topics, so having an existing interest in them will make things much more fun and easier to work with.

  • You're good at figuring stuff out. You're willing and able to learn new skills by using Google and YouTube, and don't shy away from responsibility. I want to take my channel to another level, and having you learn new skills will add to this.

  • You're a great communicator.

🎯 Benefits

  • Trajectory - You’ll be an early-stage team member in an online business and will be directly contributing to it's growth.

  • Impact - Your work will be seen by millions of people around the world and will hopefully help to add value to them.

  • Ownership - If you’ve got fun or interesting ideas about ideas or courses that align with the business goals, you’ll have free reign to make them become a reality.

  • Mentorship - You’ll work directly with me every day, for whatever that’s worth. I'd hope you'd be able to learn from my experience of building businesses, growing an audience and wearing lots of hats at once. Hopefully you'll also be able to grow your own skills to a new level.
